Ashampoo Burning Studio FREE 1.14.5-Burn files to disc for free, and a little more

Ashampoo Burning Studio FREE is, as the name implies, a tool used to burn CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays. You can put an assortment of files on your discs of choice, or create more specialized video or music CDs. There's some other frills as well, from making disc images to making backups, too. Best of all, it's free.

Burning rubber

Let's get this out of the way: Ashampoo Burning Studio FREE is fast. Though we didn't compare it to other, contemporary options, it managed to fill a DVD with data in under a minute. Obviously this is somewhat dependent on your machine, and particularly on the CD-DVD drive you're using to burn, but there is little to no overhead from the software itself: definitely a good thing.

Beyond just burning data to disc, you can do a few other things with it. You can create video DVDs or music CDs, with the proper functionality. You can also create backups on CD or DVD, and even encrypt them if that suits your fancy or your needs. You can't back up your operating system this way, but that's a bit much to expect from any software but the operating system itself. You can definitely back up files and folders, and for many, that's what's most important.

Beyond all of that, you can also erase rewritable discs, if you need to do so, or if you're planning to reuse them. You can create disc images, turning the entire contents of a disc into a file. This is fantastic for dumping the contents of an old Linux CD to be run in a virtual machine, for example. Basically, any general CD/DVD functionality you need, this software can perform.

On time, on task

Essentially, Ashampoo Burning Studio FREE is a well-oiled machine when it comes to virtually any kind of burning needs. It also has a few other useful functions. But, it bears noting, any piece of software is made or broken by its interface, by being exactly as simple as it needs to be. In this respect, Ashampoo Burning Studio isn't perfect, but it's more than good enough.

When you burn a CD or DVD, the progress bar is accurate, and gives you all of the information that's relevant to anyone save perhaps someone testing the quality of freshly-made discs (in which case, industry standard software is more appropriate than a burning studio!).

All done

Seen on its own or as a package with other Ashampoo products, Ashampoo Burning Studio FREE is a fantastic product, let alone for its price point. Whether you're an individual looking to burn a bunch of CDs or get music from the one you just purchased, or a small business looking to better distribute software to employees or clientele, it's worth considering this as your tool of choice.
